It's that time of year again... we're running our annual blog reader survey and celebrating our "blogiversary" with a giveaway! We want this blog to be posting the content that YOU are interested in reading about, so we put out a little survey every year to gather some information about what you like about it and what you don't. The survey is completely anonymous, most of the answers are multiple choice, and it should only take a few minutes of your time to complete.
As a thank you for your time and responses, we're also doing a corresponding giveaway...
The winner will receive:
* A 2TB External Hard Drive: Western Digital My Book Essential
* A copy of the new book Fearless Photographer: Film In The Digital Era
* And a 2012 KEH Photo Calendar
To enter:
Just complete the survey and then come back to this post and leave us a comment letting us know that you completed it. (If you don't want to enter the giveaway, we would still appreciate your survey responses).
For an extra entry, "like" us on Facebook and "follow" us on Twitter and leave a separate comment below letting us know that you did.
When leaving a comment below, if you do not have an account on one of the selected profiles, choose the "Name/URL" option and fill in your name (and website if you have one).
Rules:
Survey and giveaway run 1/30 through Sunday, February 12th.
A winner will be chosen at random and announced on the blog (as well as on Facebook) on Tuesday, 2/14. Winner must respond within one week to claim the prize. Winners will not be contacted directly unless an email address or website with a listed email address is left on their comment.

ReplyDeleteDone On Survey
ReplyDeleteI'm 76 years old and still using film. I'm a traditionalist and selective about considering any new technology. Most young photographers have a limited knowledge of the history of the medium and early photographers. They haven't the commitment and perseverance to learn from the past. All the electronic bells, whistles, and technology cannot replace knowledge learned by the study of the history.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I still use vintage cameras from the 1950s to confirm to myself and to others that digital photography isn't the only photography.
I started out on film, rather than digital (I just didn't have the money for a digital camera), and I'm a somewhat young-ish guy. The main thing that I notice between a lot of other people that shoot digital and myself (of the few people I'm friends with that shoot) is that people that start on digital tend to take a lot more shots than those that started with film. It's different person to person, though.
DeleteThe main thing to differentiate between (to me) is that there is a huge difference between someone that uses digital then pulls the images straight from the camera, and someone that usues digital, then manipulates the images in something like photoshop. Maybe it's art, but it's not photography (again, by my personal definition). But as far as digital vs. film goes, I think that a camera is a camera, to a certain extent. It's more about how you view the camera. Is it THE tool to accomplish a vision, or does it merely play more of a minor part along the way to accomplishing your vision. I don't consider myself an artist, but I would like to think that, to even a minor extent, I am a photographer (though I do have a friend that I would consider both, as far as the quality and beauty in the imagery he captures purely with his camera).
I don't know. I've never classically studied anything to do with cameras, and I'm sure there are tons of people that would disagree with me, but that's kind of my thought, and I don't think it's a clear cut digital vs. analog argument.
I like to use film, I like the whole process. From shooting to the darkroom to me is the process. Film slows you down makes you look at what your shooting and it takes time to make a good photograph. With digital I see so many people just shoot everything and hope they get a good shot or they fix it in photoshop. I don't know if that is good or bad but technology has maid it so much easier to make a photograph it has taken some of the skill and the need to perfect those skills. I don't know if it makes a difference if I shoot 24 shots to get one good one or 240 shots to get a good one and the person who buys the print does not care either! I know digital is hear to stay I just hope people appreciate film because I want it to stay around for awhile, to make it on film is to make it special!! (My Opinion )

ReplyDeleteJust a reminder that you MUST have a name on the post. You can either choose a profile if you have one, input your name under the "comment as" option "name/URL", or if you choose "anonymous", then type your name in the comment. Otherwise, we don't know who left the comment and can't choose you as a winner! Also, for an "extra entry" if you have liked us on Facebook or Twitter, leave it as a separate comment from your first one so it will be counted as 2 comments and not one.

I've completed your survey. I'd be happy to 'like' you on facebook too but there is no prize big enough to get me to register for twitter and since the extra entry requires both I'll settle for one entry.
ReplyDeleteIn fact the twitter thing was almost enough for me to not do the survey and unsubscribe. Still considering my options.
@Col- If you don't already have an account on Facebook or Twitter, we certainly don't expect you to sign up for one just to enter the contest. You don't have to do both for an extra entry, you can do one or the other (depending on which account you have), or both. Plus, it's not THE entry, it's an extra entry and is totally up to you whether you want to participate or not.
ReplyDeleteCompleted your survey, keep up the great work.
